> This action comes directly from Governor DeWine’s recommendation, pressured by a few groups who blame kratom for family tragedies.
Many in the Governor’s office and among policymakers do not understand the nuances of kratom, the science, or the difference between natural kratom and dangerous synthetics.
> If the Board of Pharmacy accepts this recommendation, it would create an immediate—but temporary—ban on kratom until the legislature votes to uphold or reject it. We’re exploring all methods to slow this down and prepare for worse case scenarios.
> The FDA and HHS have already made clear that only synthetic 7-OH products are targeted—not natural kratom. Our best messaging in such a compressed time frame is push for Ohio to align with federal guidance, not go beyond it.
